NerdlyBuilds

How this site is made

A short, honest account of who writes what here, and what AI does and does not do.

The writing is mine

The posts on NerdlyBuilds are written by me, Colby Wright. They describe things I have actually built and run: the Jarvis home AI, the Batcave Deck desktop HUD, and the robotics and 3D-printing work on my bench. When a post says “I” did something, I did it.

Where AI tools help

I use AI tools, including Claude, while working. They help me draft and tighten prose, suggest structure, and write or review code. They also help build this site itself, which is a static site generated from Markdown files kept in Git.

  • AI tools may help produce a first draft or an edit. They do not publish anything on their own.
  • Code in posts comes from my projects. If a snippet has been simplified for the page, I say so.
  • I do not use AI to invent experiences, benchmarks, or results. A number in a post is a number I measured.

Review before anything goes live

Every post is reviewed by me before it is published. A post only appears on the site after I approve the change that adds it. Changes are tracked in version control, so what was published, and when, is on record.

Earlier posts

This site previously ran an automated content pipeline that produced generic how-to articles from AI news. That did not meet the standard above, so those articles have been retired. Posts that remain are first-hand write-ups, and any that still need my own rewrite are held back until I have done it.

My workflow

A post starts on the bench, not in a chat window. While I build something I keep notes in my Obsidian vault: what I tried, what broke, the commands I ran, the numbers I measured. When there is a story worth telling, I use Claude to help turn those notes into a draft and to tighten it. Then I rewrite it until it sounds like me, check every claim against the real system, and run any code I am showing. My rule from the Jarvis work applies here too: verify before you diagnose, and verify before you publish.

What I never hand off: the experience itself, the measurements, and the decision to publish. Each post goes in as its own change in Git, I review it on a preview of the site, and nothing is live until I merge it.

Ads and money

The site shows ads from Google AdSense on article pages to help cover hosting. Ads do not influence what I write. See the privacy policy for how ads and cookies work.
